PURPOSE:

To develop and manage a recognized Youth Opportunities in the Arts program that promotes the development of youth leadership through music, theatre, and visual arts. To provide youth access to prime space, coaching/mentorship from experienced community members, and leadership support in order to showcase, develop, or begin their journey in the Arts.
 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

• To support Youth Opportunities in the Arts in young people (ages 10 to 35).

• To enhance and develop current and new partnerships with experienced members of the Arts community.

• To provide support and prime venue space at minimal cost.

• To provide a safe, supportive and inclusive space for all.
   

PRINCIPLES:

The Youth Opportunities in the Arts program is designed to encourage youth of all abilities to participate and reap the benefits of involvement in the Arts in a safe and supportive environment.
 

Affordable:

• The program will align itself with artists, teachers and experienced community members who have a passion to give our youth an opportunity to be exposed to and grow their interests in the Arts.

• Provide a low cost or free venue for youth performances, practices, and workshops.

Facilitate a Variety of Expressions:

• Broaden the exposure and opportunities for youth to be involved in a variety of artistic forms of expression.

• To bring workshops and creative experiences to the youth in the community e.g. schools, day camps etc., in addition to in-house opportunities.

Provide Performance and Leadership Training:

• Provide and guide performance and leadership opportunities in the Arts, through direct expression or supporting roles such as stage management, set design, costumes, creation, directing etc.

Support Further Education:

• Provide youth with opportunities for financial support through honorariums.

• Facilitate further growth through partnerships with the community Arts organizations.

Safe and Supportive Environment:

• Encourage youth to step outside their comfort zone, be creative, reach their full potential and have fun in an atmosphere of trust, support and encouragement.
